What can I get custom engraved on jewelry?
- You can submit any type of line drawing, line illustration or an image of a line drawing or line illustration.
- Your artwork can be a logo, a sketch or hand drawing, a signature, a computer illustration, an image, graffiti etc.

How do I get my jewelry order custom engraved?
Easy! To custom engrave your jewelry order, follow these 5 simple steps ...
- Create Your Artwork:
Hand draw, computer illustrate, copy and paste from the web the artwork you would like to have custom engraved into your jewelry order.
- Send Us Your Artwork:
Email your artwork as an attachment to info@shimmerandstone.com, or Fax us your artwork to +1 212 564 9574
- We Create a Proof:
Our engraving department will review your submission and evaluate if your artwork can be clearly engraved. If there are any issues, they will respond to you within 24hrs with suggestions or recommendations. If not we will render an engraving trace and create a proof for your review.
- You Review and Approve the Proof:
We will email you the rendered engraving proof for your review.
- Place Your Order:
If you are happy with the resulting engraving trace, all you need to do then is place your order online and reply to the order confirmation email with the engraving trace as an attachment for our reference.

1. Creating your artwork
The first step is to create your custom engraving artwork you can do this by:
- Hand: Hand drawn artwork, scanned and emailed to us.
- Computer: Digitally created artwork, copied from an existing digital file or original work created on phtoshop etc, emailed to us.
1. Creating your artwork by hand:
- You can draw your artwork by hand if you find it more comfortable.
- Use a white paper and a BLACK INK PEN or marker to draw your artwork.

- Scan your drawing.
- Save your scan on your computer.
- Email your saved scan image to info@shimmerandstone.com or if you don't have a scanner you can Fax us your artwork to +1 212 564 9574
- For help with your drawing also use our Custom Engraving Guide PDF (Although you do not have to, as we will scale your artwork to fit):
- If you need a guide to help you with sizing your artwork, you can find a link for the item's custom engraving .pdf on each item detail page. This .pdf file has an outline of the custom engraving space available for your artwork on that item. It is not necessary but helps with positioning your artwork on irregular shaped items.
- Double click this link to print or download/save the .pdf file to your computer.
- The .pdf will contain an outline of the shape of the item you are going to have engraved with instructions.
- Create your artwork WITHIN that shape.

2. Creating your artwork by computer:
- If you are proficient with Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop feel free to create your artwork digitally.

- For best effect and smooth engraving lines please create your art at a high resolution (150dpi-300dpi is preferred) with one dimension (height or width) of at least 200px.
- Save your artwork as a vector file (e.g. .AI file), as an image (e.g. .JPEG file) or as a PDF file and email it to us at info@shimmerandstone.com.
- You can also use the Custom Engraving Guide PDF if you need a guide to create your artwork to fit the space more precisely.

- If you have an image that you would like custom engraved ... save it and email it to us at info@shimmerandstone.com as an attachment.
2. Submit your artwork to us
- Email your saved artwork to info@shimmerandstone.com.
- Or fax us your artwork to +1 212 564 957
3. Evaluation of your artwork and creation of your proof
Done by our engraving department.
- The engraving department will evaluate the artwork you have submitted to determine if it can be used to create an effective engraving trace.
- An engraving trace is a rendering that is generated from your artwork that smoothes out lines and simplifies noise (pixelation, back and forth pen-strokes etc.) on your image to create an engraving path that can be cut into the metal of the jewelry you want custom engraved.
- If your artwork is usable, the engraving department will render the engraving trace and send you a "Proof" so you can determine if you are happy with the result before placing your order.

- If the artwork has issues, the engraving department will advise you on what those are and make the necessary suggestions.
4. Review proof and place your order.
Review your proof:
- We will email you a proof detailing the engraving trace we were able to render from your artwork, the engraving path detail and an example of how your engraving will look on the item your wish to custom engrave.
- Review it and if you are happy you can go ahead and place your order.
Place your order online
- Go to the item page of the item you wish to order
- Select the "Custom Engraving" option from the engraving option drop-down menu.

- Add further text engraving to the order if you so wish.
- Add your item to the shopping bag and checkout to place your order.
- Once you finish placing your order you will receive an order confirmation email with your order number.
Email Us Your Confirmation and Proof
- Once you receive your email order-confirmation, simply reply to that email with the proof you received as an attachment so we have a reference to the correct engraving.
- Once we receive your email we will begin to process your custom engraving.
- Allow 2-3 business days to process your custom engraving.
- Engraved items CANNOT be returned.
Timetable to process custom engraving
Custom Engraving takes 2-3 business days to process from the time we receive your order confirmation and proof.
Your delivery date will depend on the shipping option you select at checkout:
- Ground Shipping: 5-7 business days in transit
- 3-Day Select: 3 business days in transit
- 2-Day Air: 2 business days in transit
- Next Day Air Saver: 1 business day in transit

Things to be aware of with custom engraving
In order to engrave a creative piece of work we first manufacture a plate or stencil of your artwork and then proceed to engrave the item of jewelry.
As we are essentially taking a drawing and cutting it into metal there are some things you as the customer should note:
- CURVES: When curved lines are engraved they may appear slightly jagged when closely examined. This is because we are cutting into solid metal. When seen from a normal distance the curve will look fine.
- ART WORK QUALITY: If the image or drawing you submit has jagged lines or is of a low resolution (if created on a computer, low resolution images i.e. 72 dpi like those optimized for the web, have jagged or pixilated edges) the resulting engraving will also have those edges.
- FILL AREAS/SHADING: Line engraving cannot "fill" thick shapes. Essentially the engraving will be the outline of the shape. This is because engraving is done with the point of a diamond, which creates a line (as in regular text engraving), any attempt to fill a thick object will result in multiple lines, which do not look very pleasing to the eye.

- PROCESSING TIME: Custom engraving will take between 2-3 business days to process before the order is shipped out. Please take this processing time into consideration when placing your order.
- ENGRAVING ERRORS: Once an item engraved it cannot be returned. However, If we have made an error on your engraving (i.e. if we have engraved something that is different to your engraving submission) we will most certainly replace and re-engrave that item for you at no additional cost.
Return and exchange policy for custom engraved items
- We DO NOT accept returns on any engraved or personalized jewelry and/or accessories.
- ENGRAVING ERRORS: If we have made an engraving error, that is engraved the piece differently to what you have submitted OR if we have misaligned the engraving, you can send it back to us and we will re-engrave the item for you.
- STRUCTURAL DAMAGES: In the rare occasion that there is structural damage to the item when you receive it, we will engrave and ship out a new item to you immediately.
